About Paul Volcker
Former Federal Reserve chief Paul Volcker is a senior economic adviser to President-elect Barack Obama and has been chosen to chair the new Economic Recovery Advisory Board.
Mr. Volcker also served in a variety of positions with the Treasury, Chase Manhattan Bank, and the New York Fed. Mr. Volcker, 81, received degrees from Princeton University and Harvard University. He was named chairman of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System by President Carter, and was sworn in on Aug. 6, 1979. He served until Aug. 11, 1987.
