1945年罗斯福去世后由杜鲁门继任总统，在他的就职仪式上圣经没有打开。在1949年，杜鲁门使用了同一本圣经，翻开到马太福音第5章，还将一本古登堡圣经(Gutenberg Bible)翻开到出埃及记第20章十诫。

“神吩咐这一切的话说：我是耶和华─你的神，曾将你从埃及地为奴之家领出来。除了我以外，你不可有别的神。”

Harry S. Truman 1945, 1949

The Bible was closed when Truman was sworn in upon the death of Roosevelt in 1945. In 1949, he used that same Bible, open to Matthew 5, and a Gutenberg facsimile opened to Exodus 20, the Ten Commandments.

Truman's wife, Bess, and daughter Margaret were with him at the inauguration in 1945.
