 6月24日，希拉里·克林顿来到位于美国首都华盛顿的国会大厦，向她的支持者和这里的工作人员致意。当日，在美国民主党总统预选中落败的联邦参议员希拉里·克林顿重返参议院工作。民主党议员以掌声和眼泪欢迎希拉里“重操旧业”。

Thank you very,very much.Well,this isn't exactly the party I'd planned,but I sure like the company.

      And I want to start today by saying how grateful I am to all of you,to everyone who poured your hearts and your hopes into this campaign....

      You have inspired and touched me with the stories of the joys and sorrows that make up the fabric of our lives.And you have humbled me w ith your commitment to our country.Eighteen million of you,from all walks of life...women and men,young and old,Latino and Asian,African-Am erican and Caucasian...rich,poor,and middle-class,gay and straight,you have stood with m e.

      And I will continue to stand strong with you every time,everyplace,in every way that I can.The dreams we share are worthfighting for.

      I entered this race because I have an old-fashioned conviction that public service is about help-ing people solve their problems and live their dreams.I've had every opportunity and blessing in my ownlife,and I want the same for all Americans.

      And until that day comes,you'll always find me on the frontlines of democracy,fighting for the future.

      The way to continue our fight now,to accomplish the goals for which we stand is to take our energy,our passion,our strength,and do all we can to help elect Barack Obama,the next president of the United States.

      Today,as I suspend my campaign,I con-gratulate him on the victory he has won and the extraordinary race he has run.I endorse him and throw my full support behind him.

      I have served in the Senate with him for four years.I have been in this cam paign with him for 16 months.I have stood on the stage and gone toe-to-toe with him in 22 debates.I've had a front-rowseat to his candidacy,and I have seen his strength and determination,his grace and his grit.

In his own life,Barack Obama has lived the American dream,as acommunity organizer,in the state senate,as a United States senator.He h as dedicated him self to ensuring th e dream isrealized.And in this cam paign,he has inspired so m any to becom einvolved in the dem ocratic process and invested in our com m onfuture.

      We may have started on separate journeys,but today our pathshave m erged.And w e're all heading tow ard the sam edestination,united and m ore ready th an ever to w in in Novem berand to turn our country around,because so m uch is at stake.Now,the journey ahead w ill not be easy.Som e w ill say w e can'tdo it,that it's too hard,w e're just not up to the task.But for aslong as

      Now,on a personal note,w hen I w as asked w hat it m eans to be aw om an running for presi-dent,I alw ays gave the sam e answ er,thatI w as proud to be running as a w om an,but I w as running because Ithought I'd be the best president.But...

      But I am a woman and,like m illions of w om en,I know there arestill barriers and biases out there,often unconscious,and I w ant tobuild an Am erica that respects and em braces the potential of everylast one of us.

      I ran as a daughter who benefited from opportunities m y m othernever dream ed of.I ran as a m other w ho w orries about m ydaughter's future and a m other w ho w ants to leave all childrenbrighter tom orrow s.

      You can be so proud that,from now on,it w ill be unrem arkable fora w om an to w in pri-m ary state victories...unrem arkable to havea w om an in a close race to b e our n om in ee,unrem arkable tothink that a w om an can be the president of the United States.Andthat is truly rem arkable,m y friends.

    我以一个女儿的身份参选：我享受的机会是我母亲做梦也没想过的。我以一个母亲的身份参选：我担心自己女儿的未来，想让所有孩子拥有更美好的明天。

    你们可以无比骄傲：因为从现在起，女性赢得州预选很寻常，女性争当候选人时与对手势均力敌很寻常，认为女性能当美国总统也很寻常。这可真不寻常，朋友们。

To those who are disappointed that we couldn't go all of the way,especially the young people who put so much into this campaign,it would break my heart if,in falling short of my goal,I in any way discouraged any of you from pursuing yours.

    Always aim high, work hard and care deeply about what you believe in.And,when you stumble,keep faith.And,when you're knocked down,get right back up and never listen to anyone w ho says you can't or shouldn't go on.

    As w e gather here today in this historic,magnificent building,the 50th wom an to leave this Earth is orbiting overhead.If we can blast 50 w om en into space,w e w ill som eday launch a w om an into the White House.

    Although we weren't able to shatter that highest,hardest glass ceiling this tim e,thanks to you,it's got about 18 m illion cracks in it...and the light is shining through like never be-fore,filling us all w ith th e h ope an d th e sure k n ow ledge that the path will be a little easier next tim e.

    That h as alw ay s b een th e h isto ry o f progress in America.Think of th e suffragists w h o gath ered at Sen eca Falls in 1848 an d th ose w h o k ept figh tin g until w om en could cast their votes.

    Think of the abolitionists w ho struggled and died to see the end of slavery.Think of the civil rights heroes and foot soldiers who marched,protested and risked their lives to bring about the end of segregation and Jim Crow.

    Because of them,I grew up taking for granted that w om en could vote and,because of them,m y daughter grew up taking for granted that children of all colors could go to school together.

    Because of th em,Barack Obam a and I could w age a h ard-fought campaign for th e Dem ocratic nom ination.Because of them and be-cause of you,children today w ill grow up taking for gran ted that an African-A m erican or a w om an can,yes,becom e the president of the United States.

    So I want to say to m y supporters:W hen you hear people saying or think to yourself,If only,or,W hat if,I say,please,don't go there.Every m om ent w asted looking back keeps us from m oving forward.

    Life is too short,tim e is too precious,and the stakes are too high to dw ell on w hat m ight have been.W e have to w ork together for w hat still can be.And that is w hy I w ill w ork m y heart out to m ake sure that Senator Obam a is our next president.

    Now,being h um an,w e are im perfect.That's w hy w e need each other,to catch each other w hen w e falter,to encourage each other when w e lose heart.Som e m ay lead,som e m ay follow,but none of us can go it alone.

    The changes w e're w orking for are changes that w e can only accomplish together.Life,liberty and the pursuit of happiness are rights that belong to us as individuals.But our lives,our

    freedom,our happiness are best enjoyed,best protected,and best advanced w hen w e do w ork together.

    And looking out at you today,I h ave never felt so blessed.The challenges that I have faced in this cam paign...are nothing compared to those that m illions of Americans face every day in their own lives.

    This is now our time to do all that we can to make sure that,in this election,we add another Democratic president to that very small list of the last 40 years and that we take back our country and once again move with progress and com m itm ent to the future.

    因此，我想对我的支持者说：当你们听到有人说或者自己琢磨：真希望如何如何，或者如果怎样就会怎样，我劝你千万不要往那边去。回顾过去而浪费的每个时刻都妨碍我们向前。

    生命太短暂，时间太宝贵，沉湎于过去代价太高。我们必须面对现实，共同努力。正因为如此，我将鞠躬尽瘁确保奥巴马参议员成为下届总统。    既然是人，我们就不完美。所以我们需要彼此，在站不稳的时候相互扶助，在失意的时候相互鼓励。有些人可能在前面领路，有些人可能在后面跟随，但没有人能单干。

    今天，放眼望去，我从未像现在这样欣慰。和无数美国人在日常生活中面对的挑战相比，我在这场竞选中面临的挑战不算什么。    现在，我们该做的是尽己所能，确保在这场选举中给40年来那个短短的民主党总统名单增加一位，确保夺回我们的国家，再次以进步和承诺走向未来。
