今年没有哪张图片能象这张被科学家、记者如此广泛地进行研讨。它是由15岁的乔纳桑.伯尼特拍下的，当时他正在室外给正在溜冰的朋友们拍照，天空突然出现了这一幕，他迅速按下快门，一张不可多得的照片就这样诞生了。
它是一颗流星？一个正在爆炸的宇宙飞船？或者只是一架飞机的飞行轨迹？科学家一开始宣称它是一颗流星，最后又认为它是飞机的飞行轨迹。但许多人并不相信一个如此令人吃惊的火球会是协和客机排放气体反射的阳光！
8. Stumping the Experts
No photograph this year was more widely discussed -- by scientists, journalists and around water coolers -- than this one. It was taken by 15-year-old Jonathan Burnett, who was out photographing his friends skateboarding. Is it a meteor? An exploding spacecraft? Or just a jet contrail? Scientists first claimed it was the former, then finally settled on the latter. But many people were not convinced that this striking fireball could be nothing more than sunlight glinting off the exhaust of a Concorde.
